Gayatri Sadhana

The sadhana of Gayatri is worship of true knowledge. It has been repeatedly seen those who worship Gayatri will never be lacking in spiritual and worldly happiness.

It is said in Taittriya Brahmana of Yajur Veda that each limb of Gayatri has been distilled out from each Veda.. The three fold knowledge was revealed: Rig to the heart of Agni; Yajur to the heart of Vayu and Sama to the heart of Aditya. Thus the All Pervading Lord revealed the three fold knowledge, the three worlds were thus illumined. The earth (Bhu Lok, Prithvi) by the Rig, the Antariksha (Bhuva Lok) by the Yajur and Dev Lok (Svah Lok) by the Sama Veda.

Gayatri is Vedamatha, the mother of all Vedas. A person totally devoted to Gayatri recitation can achieve great success in the path of self advancement. Gayatri inspires man towards righteous wisdom. An astral, conscious electric current flows constantly in a person who is able to establish a relationship with Gayatri as it influences his mind, intellect, heart and inner self. No sooner the divine light of Gayatri dawns on the intellectual field of a person, the darkness of evil thoughts, false convictions, degrading vices start dispelling. Gayatri undoubtedly and miraculously transforms the mental framework of a person to a systematic, healthy, righteous and balanced personality. The well developed mind produces thoughts leading to action resulting in happiness. His work becomes excellent and his well intentioned thoughts radiate happiness, contentment and peace!

Panchaakshara Japa Mahatmya

As Devi Parvati desired to comprehend the meaning of the Panchaakshra Mantra of Om Namasshivaaya, Parama Shiva explained the background: 

When the Universe became extinct at the Time of Pralaya, only he was present as Narayana who floated on the Great Water Surface as the Unique and Supreme Being. As he was thus lying on water, there sprouted a Lotus from his navel and on top of the stem emerged Brahma who desired to initiate ‘Srishti’ (Creation). He created ten ‘Manasa Putras’or Mind-Born Sons, but prayed to the Supreme Being ie. Maha Deva to empower him with Shakti to take up the exciting task of formal Creation. Then the latter provided ‘Upadesha’(instruction) to Brahma and in turn Brahma gave the Upadesha to his sons who did sincere Tapasya by the recitation of the Panchakshari for thousands of years, consuming only air and nothing else.

“The great Spell muttered by Shiva and which, when imparted by Him at Kasi (City of Varanasi) leads to emancipation. 

The scriptures maintain that Lord Siva, the deity presiding over the holy city of Kasi, whispers into the right ear of every creature, dying within its boundaries, the name ‘Rama’ and thereby brings emancipation to the soul of the dying person. By combining the three letters ‘Ra’, ‘Aa’ and ’Ma’, it became a great mantra as compared to other mantras that are ordinary mantras.

The tAraka nAmA, rAmA

The derivation of words from their root syllables each of which is the root of a verb signifying an action, is, in the Sanskrit language a very instructive excercise. Hindu religious literature is replete with such derivations for almost every word that it uses. Each of the names of God like Rama, Krishna, Siva , Narayana, etc. -- in fact, each one of the names of God in the various lists of thousand names of God (sahasra-naamaa) has been assigned several derivations from their root syllables. 'The one in whose memory yogis revel in the bliss of brahman' -- is the meaning of the word Rama. "'ramante yogino-nante brahmaanande chidaatmani' -- is the declaration in the Padma-purana. 'ramante' (they revel, enjoy) is the action which forms the root verb for 'Rama'. The greatness of the word 'Rama' is not just because what the son of Dasaratha did what he did. Preceptor Vasishta hit upon the name for the child of Dasaratha because he knew that it was already a 'taaraka-mantra' -- that is, the mantra which takes you across the ocean of samsaara.

மூன்று தலைமுறையாக காயத்ரீயை விட்டு விட்டவன் பிராமணனாக மாட்டான். அப்பேர்ப்பட்டவர்கள் இருக்கிற தெரு அக்கிரஹாரம் ஆகாது. அது குடியானவர் தெருதான். ஆனால் இன்னும் மூன்று தலைமுறை ஆகவில்லையாகையால் இன்னும் பிராமணர்கள் என்று பெயராவது சொல்லலாம் என்று நினைக்கிறேன்.

மூன்று தலைமுறை யக்ஞம் இல்லாவிட்டால் அவன் துர்ப்பிராமணன்; கெட்டுப்போன பிராமணன். கெட்டாலும் ‘பிராமணன்’ என்ற பேராவது இருக்கிறது. மறுபடி பிராமணனாவதற்குப் பிராயச்சித்தம் சொல்லப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. ஆனால் காயத்ரீயை மூன்று தலைமுறையாக விட்டு விட்டால் பிராமணத்துவம் அடியோடு போய்விடுகிறது.  அதாவது, அவன் பிராமணர்களை உறவுக்காரர்களாக உடையவன் மட்டும்தான் !

Counting Gayatri Mantra

Gayatri is the mother of the Vedas and the destroyer of sins. There is nothing more purifying on the earth as well as in the heaven than the Gayatri. The Japa of Gayatri brings the same fruit as the recitation of all the four Vedas together with the Angas. This single Mantra, if repeated three times a day, brings good (Kalyan or Moksha). It is the Mantra of the Vedas. It destroys sins. It bestows splendid health, beauty, strength, vigour, vitality and magnetic aura in the face (Brahmic effulgence).

ஸந்த்யா வந்தனத்தின் மஹிமையைப் பற்றி ஒரு கதை இருக்கிறது. இக்கதை சுமார் 500, 600 வருஷங்களுக்கு முன் நடந்ததாக ஊகிக்க முடிகிறது. சென்னை கவர்மெண்டைச் சேர்ந்த ஆர்க்கியலாஜிகல் டிபார்ட்மெண்டார் பிரசுரித்திருக்கும் ரிகார்டில் இந்தக் கதைக்கு ஆதாரங்கள் இருக்கின்றன.

திருவனந்தபுரத்தை ஆண்ட ராஜாக்களில் ஒருவர், எள்ளினால் ஒரு காலபுருஷன் உருவத்தைச் செய்து, அதனுள் ஏராளமான ஐவர்யத்தை வைத்து, தானம் செய்யப் போவதாக விளம்பரம் செய்தார். அந்த உருவத்திற்குள் இருக்கும் பொருளைக் கருதி, அநேகம் பேர் தானம் வாங்குவதற்காக வந்தார்கள். அந்த காலபுருஷன் உருவம் கேட்ட கேள்விகளுக்குத் தக்க பதில் சொல்ல முடியாமல், தானம் வாங்க வந்தவர்களெல்லாம் மரணமுற்றார்கள்.

ஒரு சமயம் பக்தர் ஒருவர், காஞ்சி ஸ்ரீ மஹா பெரியவாளை நமஸ்கரித்து கண்ணீர் பெருக நின்றார். பெரியவா அவரைப் பார்த்து, என்ன ரொம்ப வலிக்கிறதா?” என்று கருணையுடன் கேட்டார். பிறகு, கீழ்கண்ட ஸ்லோகத்தை எழுதிக் கொள்ளச் சொல்லி, தினமும் நூற்றி எட்டு தடவை இதைச் சொல், கவலைப்படாதே” என்று ஆறுதல் கூறி அனுப்பினார். ஆறு மாதங்கள் கழித்து, அந்த பக்தர் மீண்டும் கண்ணீர் மல்க, பெரியவாளை தரிசித்து சாஷ்டாங்கமாக விழுந்து வணங்கினார். நன்னாயிட்டியே” என்றார், அந்த கலியுகத் தெய்வம். அந்த பக்தர், ஆமாம் நன்னாயிட்டேன். மருந்து எதுவும் வேண்டாம் என்று டாக்டர்கள் சொல்லி விட்டார்கள்” என்றார் அவர்.
