Nava Durga - Skandamata

The fifth aspect of Mother Durga is known as Skandamata. She is the mother of Kumara or Skanda or Kartikeya, who was chosen by gods as their commander in the war against the demons. Worshippers offer great reverence to mother Skanda on Panchami of Durga Pooja. When all Devta (deities), Rishi-Muni (saint, holymen) and Manushya (mankind) was tired from torment as well as domination of colossal giant Tarakasur, Kumar kartikey is the only almighty who demolished the tyranny of Devil Tarakasur. Being the mother of powerful deity Kumar Kartikey, mother Parvati is glorified with name 'Skanda Mata'. She is the true Goddess of endurance. She is represented with four-arm holding six-faced infant Kumar Kartikey in her lap. Her both right and left upper hands hold lotus flower. She is also revered with name 'Padamasana devi' as she seats on lotus in state of meditation. 

It is believed that devotees and worshippers enter in 'Vishudha Chakra' during this day of Durga Pooja. Vishudha means pure in all directions. Thus, in this state, worshipper moves toward undiluted thoughts. They feel removal of impurities and tensions of outer world, and immerse themselves completely in adherence of mother Skanda. She governs planet Jupiter (Guru). Worshipping mother of Skanda on the fifth day of Navratri Pooja has also great significance. Her elegant appearance mesmerizes the worshippers. She is the true Goddess of purity. By offering invocation to this almighty, worshippers can travel the tranquil Universe to pacify their soul and mind. This great journey makes them realize the heavenly truth of life. They leave their sorrows behind and achieve the great and divine contentment in life.

वन्दे वांछित कामार्थे चन्द्रार्धकृतशेखराम्।

सिंहरूढ़ा चतुर्भुजा स्कन्दमाता यशस्वनीम्।।

धवलवर्णा विशुध्द चक्रस्थितों पंचम दुर्गा त्रिनेत्रम्।

अभय पद्म युग्म करां दक्षिण उरू पुत्रधराम् भजेम्॥

पटाम्बर परिधानां मृदुहास्या नानांलकार भूषिताम्।

मंजीर, हार, केयूर, किंकिणि रत्नकुण्डल धारिणीम्॥

प्रफुल्ल वंदना पल्ल्वांधरा कांत कपोला पीन पयोधराम्।

कमनीया लावण्या चारू त्रिवली नितम्बनीम्॥

स्वकर्मकारिणी गति हरिप्रयाच पार्वतीम्।

अनन्तशक्ति कान्तिदां यशोअर्थभुक्तिमुक्तिदाम्॥

पुनःपुनर्जगद्वितां नमाम्यहं सुरार्चिताम्।

जयेश्वरि त्रिलोचने प्रसीद देवीपाहिमाम्॥

कवच

ऐं बीजालिंका देवी पदयुग्मघरापरा।

हृदयं पातु सा देवी कार्तिकेययुता॥

श्री हीं हुं देवी पर्वस्या पातु सर्वदा।

सर्वांग में सदा पातु स्कन्धमाता पुत्रप्रदा॥

वाणंवपणमृते हुं फ्ट बीज समन्विता।

उत्तरस्या तथाग्नेव वारुणे नैॠतेअवतु॥

इन्द्राणां भैरवी चैवासितांगी च संहारिणी।

सर्वदा पातु मां देवी चान्यान्यासु हि दिक्षु वै॥

शास्त्रों में कहा गया है कि इस चक्र में अवस्थित साधक के मन में समस्त बाह्य क्रियाओं और चित्तवृत्तियों का लोप हो जाता है और उसका ध्यान चैतन्य स्वरूप की ओर होता है, समस्त लौकिक, सांसारिक, मायाविक बन्धनों को त्याग कर वह पद्मासन माँ स्कन्दमाता के रूप में पूर्णतः समाहित होता है। साधक को मन को एकाग्र रखते हुए साधना के पथ पर आगे बढ़ना चाहिए।
