Vedanta and Idol Worship

A pseudo-Vedantin feels himself ashamed to bow or prostrate before an idol in the temple. He feels that his Advaita will evaporate if he prostrates. Study the lives of the reputed Tamil saints, Appar, Sundarar, Sambandhar, etc. They had the highest Advaitic realisation. They saw Lord Siva everywhere and yet they visited all temples of Siva, prostrated before the idol and sang hymns, which are on record now. The sixty-three Nayanar saints practised Chariyai and Kriyai only and attained God-realisation thereby. They swept the floor of the temple, collected flowers, made garlands for the Lord and put on lights in the temple. They were illiterate, but attained the highest realisation. They were practical Yogis and their hearts were saturated with pure devotion. They were an embodiment of Karma Yoga. All practised the Yoga of Synthesis. The idol in the temple was all Chaitanya or consciousness for them. It was not a mere block of stone.

Madhusudana Swami, who had Advaita realisation, who beheld oneness of the Self, who had Advaitic Bhava, was intensely attached to the form of Lord Krishna with flute in His hands.

கரிக் கூடையும்... பகவத் கீதையும்!

மலைப் பிரதேசத்தில் இருந்த பண்ணை ஒன்றில், வயோதிக விவசாயி ஒருவர் தன் பேரனுடன் வசித்து வந்தார். தினமும் அதிகாலையில் எழுந்து, சமையலறை மேஜை அருகில் அமர்ந்து, பகவத் கீதை படிப்பது அவர் வழக்கம். அனைத்து விஷயங்களிலும் அவரைப் பின்பற்ற நினைத்த பேரனும், கீதை படிக்க முற்பட்டான்.

நந்தி தத்துவம்

நந்தியின் நிறம் வெள்ளை. வெண்மை தூய்மையைக் குறிப்பது. அறமாகிய தர்மத்தின் நிறமும் வெண்மையே. நந்தி தூய்மையும் ஆண்மையும் நிறைந்தது. ஆக தர்மதேவதையே சிவ பெருமானின் வாகனமாக அமைந்துள்ளது.

சிவபெருமானின் வாகனமும் கொடியும் ரிஷபமே (காளை). தருமதேவதை, சிவபெருமானிடம் தன்னை வாகனமாக ஏற்கும்படி கூறியது. அவ்வேண்டு கோளுக்கு இணங்க சிவபெருமான், ஒவ்வொரு யுகத்திலும் நான்கு, மூன்று, இரண்டு, ஒன்று என்ற பாதங்களால் நீ நடக்க வேண்டும். நானே உனக்கு உயிராய் இருந்து உன்னை நடத்துவதால் நம்மை வணங்குவோர் செய்யும் பாவங்கள் கூட அறமாக மாறும் என்று வரமருளினார் சிவபெருமான்.

சிவாலயங்களில் உள்ள நந்திதேவர் மூன்று கால்களை மடக்கி ஒரு காலை மட்டும் நிமர்த்தி யுள்ளதை நாம் காண முடியும். கலியுகத்தில் ஒரு காலால் நடக்க வேண்டும் என்ற சிவ பெருமானின் ஆணைக் கேற்பவே அவ்வாறு உள்ளது. தருமவிடை சிவாலயங்களில் கர்ப்பக் கிரகத்திற்கு எதிரில் கம்பீரமாக அமர்ந்திருக்கும் நந்திதேவர் தருமவிடை எனப்படுவார். அழிவே இல்லாதது தருமம். அது விடை (ரிஷபம்) வடிவில் இறைவனிடத்தில் சென்றடைய, அந்த நந்தியின் மீது ஈஸ்வரன் அமர்ந்திருக்கிறார்.
