Orion constellation (Arudra)

 

There are some events that occur in the cosmic due to the positions of constellation and planets in our galaxy. One of the event is Arudra darshan. In Hindu astrology we have 27 nakshatras (constellation) from Aswini to Revathi, among this Thiruvadirai Orion is the biggest and brightest.

Arudra Maha Abhishekam

During 1957-59, HH Sri Mahaswami of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam was camping in Chennai Sanskrit College.  One evening, he gave a lecture on Arudra, quoting the following sloka composed by Srimad Appayya Dikshitar instantly on an Arudra day at Chidambaram in the month of Margasirsha (Margazhi in Tamil). The Thillai Dikshitars were conducting sandal-paste abhisekam to the Lord Naṭaraja in the early morning hours (3am to 6am).

திருச்சிற்றம்பலம்

ஜெர்மனி நாட்டின் டாக்டர் கெண்டர் ஒரு முறை சிதம்பரம் வந்தார். நம் இந்து மதத்தின் மீது மிகுந்த நம்பிக்கை கொண்ட அந்த டாக்டர் யோகா, தியானம் போன்றவற்றில் அதிக ஈடுபாடும் பயிற்சியும் கொண்டவர். அப்போது இங்கே 'ஓம்' என்று ஒலிக்கும் மணியின் ஓசையைக் கேட்டார்.  ஜெர்மனியில் ஒரு நாள் யோகப்பயிற்சியில் இருக்கும்போது இதேபோல 'ஓம்' என்று ஒலி கேட்டது நினைவுக்கு வந்தது. அப்போதுதான் அவருடைய நெடுநாள் கேள்விக்கும் பதில் கிடைத்தது.

Chidambaram - The Cosmic Lingam

The myths and legends of Chidambaram state that Siva was compelled to continue his dance at Chidambaram, rather than in the Tarakam forest (Tarukavanam), because he could see that the original site could not sustain the powerful energies of the dance. Invoking a yogic parallel, he identified the snaking ida and pingala currents in the subtle body with geographical locations north and south of Chidambaram, and then said that the central channel [natuvinadi] passed directly through Tillai, making it the centre of the world and the site of the original cosmic lingam.

நடராஜக் கூத்து

நடராஜருடைய கூத்தில் பொதிந்துகிடக்கும் தத்துவங்கள்

நடராஜர் நடனமாடத் தொடங்குமுன் 14 முறை தன் கையிலுள்ள ‘டக்கா’ எனப்படும் உடுக்கையை ஒலிக்கிறார். அதனின்றும் வெவ்வேறு சப்தங்கள் எழுகின்றன. அவருடைய நடனத்தை காணக் குழுமியிருக்கும் தேவர்கள், முனிவர்கள் ஆகியோரிடையே இருந்த பரதமுனி, நாரதமுனி, பாணினிமுனி, பதஞ்சலிமுனி, முதலானோருக்கு வெவ்வேறு வகையாக இந்த சப்தங்கள் ஒலிக்கின்றன; பொருளாகின்றன.

பரதமுனிக்கு அவை நாட்டியசாஸ்திர சூத்ரங்களாகவும், நாரதமுனிக்கு சங்கீதசாஸ்திர சூத்ரங்களாகவும், பாணினிமுனிக்கு வியாகரணசாஸ்திர சூத்ரங்களாகவும், பதஞ்சலிமுனிக்கு யோக சாஸ்திர சூத்ரங்களாகவும் அவை ஒலிக்கின்றன. அவரவர் துறையில் அவரவர் சிறப்பான நூல்களை உலகம் உய்ய அளிக்க அவை வழிசெய்கின்றன.

Maheshwara Sutra

माहेश्वर सूत्र : Sanskrit alphabet

“नृत्यावसाने नटराज राजः ननाद ढक्वाम नवपंच वारम। 

उद्धर्तु कामाद सनकादि सिद्धै एतत्विमर्शे शिव सूत्र जालम।”

अर्थात नृत्य की समाप्ति पर भगवान शिव ने अपने डमरू को विशेष दिशा-नाद में चौदह (नौ+पञ्च वारम) बार चौदह प्रकार की आवाज में बजाया। उससे जो चौदह सूत्र बजते हुए निकले उन्हें ही “शिव सूत्र” या माहेश्वर सूत्र के नाम से जाना जाता है।

தில்லை மூவாயிரவர்

அண்மையில் ஒரு பெரும் பேராசிரியர் ஆற்றிய சொற்பொழிவுக்குச் சென்றிருந்தேன். அவரது சொற்பொழிவின் இடையில் திருத்தொண்டத் தொகை பற்றிய செய்தி வந்தது. அவர் இதிலுள்ள முதல் தொடரான தில்லை வாழ் அந்தணர் என்பது சிற்றம்பலத்தில் ஆடிக் கொண்டிருக்கும் பெருமானையே குறிக்கிறது. இத்தொடரில் “வாழ்” என்னும் சொல் முக்காலத்தையும் குறிக்கும் சொல். முக்காலத்தும் இருப்பவர் சிவபெருமானே; அதனால் அது அவரையே குறிக்கும். அது அங்கு அர்ச்சனை செய்து வரும் தீக்ஷிதர்களைக் குறிக்காது என்றார். என்னுடன் வந்த நண்பர் அவர் சொல்வது சரியா என்று கேட்டார்.

Thai Poosam

Thai Poosam festival occurs in the Tamil month of Thai (Jan 14th to Feb 14th) on the day of star poosam around the full moon day and has many legends associated with it.  It was on this day, Lord Shiva and His consort Uma Devi blessed the sage Vyagrapadha and Patanjali with their blissful dance in Chidambaram.

தூக்கிய திருவடியைத் தரிசித்த புலவருக்கு அதன் சிவந்த நிறத்திற்கான காரணம் என்ன என்ற ஆராய்ச்சி பிறக்கிறது. ஐயன் ஒரே அடியை ஊன்றி ஆடுவதால் அது சிவந்து இருப்பது சரியே. ஆனால் தூக்கிய திருவடியும் ஏன் சிவந்து காணப்படுகிறது? ஒருவேளை அம்மை சிவகாமவல்லி, ஐயனின் பாதங்களைப் பிடித்து விடுவதால் அம்மையின் செந்தளிர்க் கரங்களின் செம்மை நிறத்தால், இரு பாதங்களுமே சிவந்து காணப் படுகின்றனவோ? இது தான் காரணமாயிருக்க வேண்டும் என்று முடிவு செய்கிறார்.

நடராஜப் பெருமான் இப்படி ஓய்வு ஒழிச்சல் இல்லாமல் ஆடிக் கொண்டிருக்கிறாரே! இவருக்கு ஆடுவதில் சலிப்பே ஏற்படாதா? அந்தத் திருவடிகள் தாம் சலித்துப் போகாதா? என்று கவலையும் ஆச்சரியமும் ஏற்படுகிறது புலவருக்கு. ஆனால் அவர் யாருக்காக ஆடுகிறார்? பதஞ்சலி முனிவருக்காக அல்லவா ஆடுகிறார்! அவரோ பதம் சலியாத முனிவர்! அவர் பெருமானையும் பதம் சலியாதவராக ஆக்கி விட்டாரோ?

ஐயன் தம்மிடம் வருபவரைத்தாமாக்கும் தன்மை கொண்டவர் என்பது பிரசித்தம். ஆனால் இங்கோ பதஞ்சலி முனிவர் ஐயனையே தம்மைப் போல் பதம்+சலியாதவர் என்றே ஆக்கி விட்டார் என்று தோன்றுகிறது!

கோனேரிராஜபுரம் (திருநல்லம்) திருவிடைமருதூரின் தெற்கே சுமார் 10 கி.மீ தொலைவில் காவிரி தென்கரையில் உள்ள சோழ நாட்டின் தேவார பாடல்பெற்ற முப்பத்திநான்காவது ஸ்தலம். செவ்வாய் மற்றும் வெள்ளி கிழமைகளில் இங்கு ஈசனை தரிசித்தால் சகல நன்மைகளும் கிட்டும் என கருதப்படுகிறது. 

இந்த திருக்கோவில் கண்டராதித்த சோழனின் மனைவி செம்பியன் மாதேவியால் புதுப்பிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இதனை குறித்து இக்கோவிலில் ஏராளமான கல்வெட்டுக்கள் காணப்படுகின்றன.  கண்டராதித்த சோழன் மற்றும் செம்பியன் மாதேவியின் சிலைகளும் இங்கு காணப்படுகின்றன. இக்கோவிலின் அன்றாட செலவுகளுக்காக ஏராளமான சொத்தை கோவிலுக்கு நன்கொடையாக செம்பியன் மஹாதேவி தந்துள்ளார்.

தேடிவந்த சிதம்பரம் காணக்கிடைக்காத அபூர்வ படம்

காஞ்சி மகாபெரியவர் சித்தி அடைவதற்கு ஒரு ஆண்டு முன்பாக, உடல் தளர்ச்சி பெற்ற நிலையில், ஒருநாள் மாலையில், தனது சிஷ்யர்களை அழைத்து தான் சிதம்பரம் சென்று ஸ்ரீ நடராஜப் பெருமானை தரிசிக்க வேண்டுமென்றும், அவருடைய பூஜையில் அணிவிக்கப்படும் ஸ்ரீ குஞ்சிதபாதத்தை தரிசிக்க வேண்டுமென்றும் கூறினார். (குஞ்சிதபாதம் என்பது பல வகை வேர்களால் உருவாக்கப்பட்டு, நடராஜப் பெருமானுக்கு அணிவிக்கப்படுவது) குஞ்சிதபாதத்தை தரிசித்தால் நோய் அகலுவதுடன், மோட்சம் கிடைக்கும்.

இதைக்கேட்ட சிஷ்யர்களுக்கு கலக்கம். பெரியவரை சிதம்பரத்திற்கு எவ்வாறு அழைத்துச் செல்வது என சிந்தித்தனர். என்ன ஆச்சரியம்! மறுநாள் காலை சூரிய உதயத்துக்கு முன்பாக, சிதம்பரம் நடராஜருக்கு பூஜை செய்யும் தீட்சிதர்கள் சிலர், காஞ்சிபுரம் சங்கரமடம் வந்து பெரியவரை தரிசித்து பிரசாதம் கொடுக்க அனுமதி கேட்டனர்.

ஆருத்ரா தரிசனம்

மார்கழி மாதம் தஷிணாயனத்தின் இறுதி மாதமாகும். மார்கழி மாதத்தில் தில்லைச் சிதம்பரத்தில் கோவில் கொண்டருளிய நடராஜப் பெருமானைத் தரிசிக்க தேவர்கள் ஒன்றுகூடுவதாக ஐதீகம். தேவர்களுக்கு இம்மாதம் அதிகாலைப் பொழுதாகும். இக்காலத்தில் (வைகறையில்) சுவாமி தரிசனம் செய்வது உத்தமமாகக் கருதப்படுகின்றது. அக்காலத்தைப் பிரம்ம முகூர்த்தம் என்று அழைப்பர்.

மார்கழி மாதத்து பௌர்ணமியோடு திருவாதிரை நட்சத்திரமும் சேர்ந்து வரும் நாள் `திருவாதிரை' விழாவாக கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது. இதை "ஆருத்ரா தரிசனம்'' என்றும் அழைக்கின்றனர். ஆருத்ரா என்ற வடமொழிச்சொல் திரிந்து தமிழில் ஆதிரை ஆனது. அதோடு திரு என்ற அடைமொழியை பெற்று திருவாதிரை என்றானது. சிவபெருமானுக்கு உகந்த நட்சத்திரம் திருவாதிரை நட்சத்திரமாகும்.

Margazhi month, known as the Twilight in Heaven time, is the most suitable occasion to take a cue from the Sun while it is in Sagittarius, the period known as the time the Gods rest and rejuvenate.

During this auspicious time, Lord Shiva’s birthday comes, which is celebrated on the Arudra star day and is known as Arudra Darshan. It is believed to be the day when Lord Shiva’s energy is very close to the earth; hence it has been given the importance of being His birthday.

Lord Shiva is worshiped in the cosmic dance form, making His power and heightened consciousness accessible to those who seek it. It is considered that Arudra Darshan, Lord Nataraja’s day, is the longest night of the year. After this, the days get longer and the nights get shorter.

கடவுள் அணு

‘கடவுள் அணு’ என்று விஞ்ஞானிகளால் செல்லமாக அழைக்கப்பட்ட, எல்லா அணுக்களிலும் நுண்ணியதும், ஆதாரமானதுமான நுண்மையான அணுவை, சுமார் 14 ஆண்டுகள் முயற்சி செய்து, ஏறக்குறைய ரூ.20,000 கோடி செலவு செய்து, ஸ்விட்சர்லாந்து – பிரான்ஸ் நாட்டு எல்லையில் உருவாக்கப்பட்ட ‘செர்ன்’ என்கிற விஞ்ஞான ஆராய்ச்சி சாலை, அடையாளம் கண்டு விட்டதாக ஜூலை 4-ஆம் தேதி அறிவிக்கப்பட்டபோது உலகமே வியந்தது. இந்த ‘கடவுள் அணு’ என்று அழைக்கப்படும் துண்டு அணுவுக்கு உண்மையான பெயர் ‘ஹிக்ஸ்-போசான்’ என்பது. இது இரண்டு விஞ்ஞானிகளுடைய பெயர்களின் இணைப்பு. இதில் ஹிக்ஸ் என்பது இங்கிலாந்து நாட்டு விஞ்ஞானியின் பெயர். இவர் இன்னும் உயிருடன் இருக்கிறார்.

1998-ல் துவங்கிய இந்த விஞ்ஞான முயற்சி எல்லாவற்றுக்கும், 74 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன், 1924-ஆம் ஆண்டு பிள்ளையார் சுழி இட்டவர், நம் நாட்டு விஞ்ஞானியான கல்கத்தாவைச் சேர்ந்த சத்யேந்திரநாத் போஸ் என்கிற இளைஞர். 1894-ல் பிறந்த இவர், 1924-ஆம் ஆண்டு அணுவையும் அணுசக்தியையும் கண்டுபிடித்த ஆல்பர்ட் ஐன்ஸ்டீனுக்கு, ஆராய்ச்சிக் கட்டுரை ஒன்றை அனுப்பினார். அப்போது அவருக்கு 30 வயது. அவரும் ஐன்ஸ்டீனும் சேர்ந்து செய்த ‘ஐன்ஸ்டீன் - போஸ் கண்டேன்செட்’ என்கிற கண்டுபிடிப்புதான், செர்ன் விஞ்ஞானிகள் இப்போது கண்டுபிடித்திருக்கும் நுண் அணுவைத் தேடுவதன் துவக்கம். அணுக்களுக்கு உப அணுக்கள் உண்டு என்பதற்கு போஸின் சிந்தனைதான் துவக்கமாக இருந்தது.

Shambu Natanam slokam

At Sandhya kalam (Pradosha kalam) Shiva dances at all places not only at Chidambaram. Wherever he dances, Pathanjali muni, Vyagrapada muni, Nandhi and Bhringi will be with him. While Bhringi and Nandhi stay with Shiva always, Pathanjali and Vyagrapadar are there whenever and wherever he dances.

Pathanjali is stated to be the Avatar of Adisesha and is depicted with a human face and the body of a snake. Vyagrapadar has also a human face and his legs are like that of a tiger with long nails. Nandhi, the divine vahana has two horns (Kombu, in Tamil) and four feet (Kaal in Tamil). Bhringi has three legs. Pathanjali was teased by the other three saying that he has neither Horn (Kombu) nor Kaal (legs).

Pathanjali gave a rejoinder stating that the other three have separate eyes and ears which was a disadvantage. If they concentrate on Ishwara’s dance form by seeing, they will miss the laya or thala and if they concentrate on the laya and listen, they will miss out on the visual treat. However, Pathanjali, in his serpent form, had a common organ for perceiving sound and sight (it was commonly believed that snakes make use of the same organs for hearing and seeing) and therefore could concentrate on both the form and laya simultaneously.

Pathanjali also stated that inspite of his not having Kombu and Kaal, he can appreciate the cosmic dance of Shiva better and will sing His praises. The trio of Nandi, Bhringi and Vyagrapadar teased Pathanjali further saying that he had no Kombu and Kaal and how will he sing Shiva’s praise without Kombu and Kaal. Pathanjali said that since he himself had no Kombu and Kaal, he will sing Shiva’s praise also with a slokam in which the letters had no Kombu or Kaal ( e E a etc.)

The Shambu natana slokam has no words with Kombu or Kaal. This was sung according to the laya/thala of Shiva’s cosmic dance.

தில்லை நடராஜப் பெருமானுக்கு திகழ் வைரமுடி

கோயில் என்றாலே சைவ அடியார்களுக்கு தில்லை சிற்றம்பலமே கண் முன் தோன்றும். தில்லையுள் ஆடுகின்ற பரமனை அன்று முதல் இன்று வரையில் என்றென்றும் பக்தியால் பாடி பரவசம் அடைந்த பெரியோர்கள் பாடல்களை இசைத்தும் ஆடிப் பாடியும் மகிழ்ந்துள்ளனர். அப்பர் பெருமான் சிற்றம்பலத்தை அடைந்தவுடன் மெய்மறந்து பாடுகின்றார்.

"பக்தனாய் பாடமாட்டேன் பரமனே பரமயோகீ
எத்தினாற் பத்தி செய்கேன் என்னை நீ இகழ வேண்டா
முத்தனே முதல்வா தில்லை அம்பலத்தாடுகின்ற
அத்தாவுன் ஆடல் காண்பான் அடியேனேன் வந்தவாறே"

என்று பாடுகின்றார்.

All temples convey mystical truths through their architecture, images, stories, rituals and pageantry. But somehow Chidambaram, because of its age, association with great yogis and the unbroken devotion of its priesthood, has unparalleled power in awakening the devotee. Here is the home of the fifth of the elemental Lingams of air, earth, fire, water, ether. This Akasha Lingam, representing Siva as beyond form, is simply the empty space in a room beside Siva Nataraja in the Chitsabha, known as Chidambaram Rahasyam or "secret." All that one finds here are a yantra and golden arch decorated with bilva leaves. Another profound object of worship here is the Moksha Linga, a clear crystal again representing Parasiva, worshiped six times a day. It is said this Lingam was given to the Dikshitars by Lord Nataraja Himself, who hardened the rays coming out of the crescent moon on His head.

தில்லை நடராஜ மூர்த்தி உருவான வரலாறு

சோழ மன்னன் இரணிய வர்மன் தீர்த்த யாத்திரை புறப்பட்டு பல புண்ணிய தலங்களை தரிசித்துவிடு தில்லையை அடைந்தார். சிற்றம்பல திருக்குளமான சிவகங்கைத் தீர்த்தத்தில் நீராடும்போது தண்ணீருக்குள் ஓங்கார நாதம் ஒலித்தது. அரசருக்கு ஆச்சரியம் தாளவில்லை. தண்ணீரை விட்டு வெளியே எழுந்தவுடன் அந்நாதம் கேட்கவில்லை. மீண்டும் நீருக்குள் மூழ்கினார், ஓங்கார ஒலி தெளிவாகக் கேட்டது.

என்ன இது அதிசயம்? மறுபடியும் மூழ்கினார். கண்களைத் திறந்தார். அங்கு ஆடல் வல்லாரின் அற்புத நடனமும் கூடவே ஓங்கார ஒலி; அரசர் வியப்பில் ஆழ்ந்து போய் மீண்டும் மீண்டும் நீரினுள் மூழ்கி அந்நடனத்தையும் ஓங்கார ஓசையையும் கேட்டார்.

தாம் கண்ட காட்சியை ஓவியமாக வரைந்தார். தான் அனுபவித்த இந்த அற்புத இன்பத்தை உலகிலுள்ள அனைவரும் கண்டு அனுபவிக்க வழியை யோசித்தார். இறுதியில், தான் கண்ட வடிவத்தை மிகவும் தூய்மையான சொக்கத் தங்கத்தில் விக்ரகமாகச் செய்து பொன்னம்பலத்தில் எல்லோரும் தரிசனம் செய்யும்படி அமைக்க வேண்டுமென முடிவு செய்தார்.

CHIDAMBARA RAHASYAM as given by KANCHI SRI MAHASWAMIGAL

The antaH-karaNaM which lives on the strength of the individualistic JIva-bhAva created by itself, as well as the life-breath which gives life to the whole body – both merge into that single point, the single root of everything, The enlightenment of the self as Self also takes place right at that point.

It is a ‘point’, very small, like a needle eye. nIvAra-shUkavat, that is, as slender as the awn of a paddy grain; it has been said to be that small. Within the heart, which is like the bud of a lotus suspended in an inverted position, there is a subtle space. From there spreads throughout the body a hot Fire, the Life-power; and in the centre of that Fire there abides a tongue of Fire, dazzling like the flash of lightning; that is the PrANa-agni. That ends up at the point as the awn of a paddy grain. That point is the locale of the Atman (Atma-sthAnaM) – says the Narayana SuktaM.

The entire universe is the cosmic expansion of the VirAT-purushha. The heart of this Cosmic Purushha is Chidambaram. The ChitsabhA (the assembly in the temple there) is the ‘point’. This is the meaning of the well-known facts: “It is a subtle gate; there is nothing but space there. It is a secret. Among the kshetras corresponding to the five elements, Chidambaram is the AkAsha (Space)”. Chit-sabhA is also called ‘dabra-sabhA’.
