Kushmanda, the fourth manifestation of Goddess Durga, is worshipped on the Navratri Chaturthi. She is considered to be the creator of the universe. (Ku+Usma+Anda)- that is how the word has been derived. 'Ku' means `a little'; `Usma' is warmth, heat or energy and `Anda' means the cosmic egg or universe. That is from whose fraction of warmth the universe has emanated. She resides on Saurmandal (solar system). Like Sun illuminates and removes darkness from Earth, her boundless blaze gives light in life of human being.
Devi Kushmanda is also known as “Ashtabhuja” as she is represented with eight arms, holding weapons and a mala or rosary. In her seven hands she holds Kamandalu, bow, arrow, lotus, a jar of nectar, discus and mace respectively. In her eighth hand there is rosary capable of giving eight Siddhis and nine Nidhis. Her vehicle is lion. Her mount is a tiger and She emanates a solar like aura. "Kumbh Bhand" means to see cosmic vivacity in Pindi shape or knowledge of cosmic intricacies in human race. It is believed when there was no existence of universe, and when the densest darkness surrounded the whole planets of space, only a little soft smile of Devi Kushmanda illuminated the Universe. She is the form of 'Adi Shakti' Worshipped as Devi Kushmanda.
Maa Kushmanda represents Anahata Chakra in spiritual practice. The divine blessings of Maa Kushmanda help you fulfill your desires. She brings enemies in your favour. Maa brings light into darkness and establishes harmony in your life. Planet Mercury (Budh) is ruled by Maa Kushmanda.
