Shivananda Lahari - Sloka: 51

வண்டும் சிவபெருமானும் | Bee and Lord Shiva

भृंगीच्छानटनोत्कटः करमदिग्राही स्फुरन्माधवा-

ह्लादो नादयुतो महासितवपुः पञ्चेषुणा चादृतः ।

सत्पक्षः सुमनोवनेषु स पुनः साक्षान्मदीये मनो-

राजीवे भ्रमराधिपो विहरतां श्रीशैलवासी विभु: ॥ ५१ ॥

ப்ருங்கீச்சா நடனோத்கட: கரிமதக் ராஹீ ஸ்புரன் மாதவா

ஹ்லாதோ நாத யுதோ மஹாஸிதவபு: பஞ்சே ஷுணா சாத்ருத: |

ஸத்பக்ஷஸ் ஸுமனோவனேஷு ஸபுன: ஸாக்ஷõன் மதீயே

மனோ ராஜீவே ப்ரமராதிபோ விஹரதாம் ஸ்ரீ சைலவாஸீ விபு || 51 ||

வண்டுக்கும் சிவனுக்கும் சிலேடை

வண்டுக்கு: 

பெண் வண்டுகளின் விருப்பத்திற்கேற்ப நடனமிடுவதும் யானைகளின் மதநீரைப் பருகுவதும், பிரகாசமான வசந்த ருதுவைக் கண்டு மகிழ்வதும், ரீங்கார ஒலியெழுப்புவதும், கறுத்த உடலையுடையதும், மன்மதனின் ஆதரவு பெற்றதும், மலர் வனங்களை மிகவும் விரும்புவதும், அழகிய மலையில் வசிப்பதும் எங்கும் பறந்து செல்லும் ஆற்றல் உடையதுமான ஆண் வண்டு, என் மனமென்னும் தாமரையில் அமர்ந்து விளையாடுவதாக! 

சிவபிரானுக்கு:  

பிருங்கி முனிவரின் விருப்பத்திற்கேற்ப நடனமிடுபவரும் கஜாசுரனின் ஆணவத்தை அடக்கியவரும், மோகினி வடிவ விஷ்ணுவைக் கண்டு மகிழ்ந்த வரும், பிரணவ நாதத்தையும், வெண்ணீறு விளங்கும் திருமேனியையும் உடையவரும், மன்மதனால் தன் பாணத்திற்கு இலக்காகக் கொள்ளப்பட்டவரும் தேவர்களைக் காப்பவரும், ஸ்ரீசைலம் என்னும் மலையில் உள்ளவருமான சிவன் என் மனமென்னும் தாமரையில் வீற்றிருக்கட்டும்!       

         

bhṛngīccā-naṭanotkaṭaḥ kari-mada-grāhī sphuran-mādhava-

āhlādo nāda-yuto mahāsita-vapuḥ panceśuṇā cādṛtaḥ |

sat-pakśaḥ sumano-vaneśu sa punaḥ sākśān-madīye mano

rājīve bhramarādhipo viharatāṃ śrī śaila-vāsī vibhuḥ || 51 ||

This sloka has two meanings and could be taken to mean sweet jasmine flower or Lord Shiva. Both are given below: 

For the Bee:

May that which likes to dance, 

As per the wish of the female bee, 

May that which drinks the oozing rut from the elephant, 

May that that whose joy increased, 

On seeing the season of spring, 

May that which makes sound, 

May that with a jet black body, 

May that which is like by the God of love, 

May that which likes a flowering garden, 

May that which likes to live in pretty mountain, 

May that which can travel everywhere, 

And may that holy male bee, 

Appear and dance on seeing the lotus of my mind. 

For Lord Shiva:

May he who likes to dance, 

As per the wish of sage Bhringi, 

May he who tamed Gajasura, 

May he whose joy increased, 

On seeing Vishnu in Mohini form, 

May he who is the holy sound, 

May he whose mien is crystal white, 

May he who was slaved by the arrow, 

Of the God of love, 

May he who is interested in saving good people, 

May he who lives in the Sri Shaila mountain, 

May he who is everywhere, 

And may he who is the consort of Goddess Bramarambika, 

Appear before me and play in the lotus of my mind.
