ஒரு ஊரிலே ஏழைகள் 'பஞ்சம், பணம் வேணும்' என்று சீஃப் மினிஸ்டருக்கு, முதன் மந்திரி என்கிறார்களே அவருக்கு... இல்லை, இப்போது அதை முதலமைச்சர் என்று ஆக்கியிருக்கிறார்கள். எனக்குச் சிரிப்புத்தான் வருகிறது! ஸம்ஸ்கிருதத்தை அடித்துத் துரத்தி விட்டால் அதுவே தமிழ் வளர்ச்சி என்பதாக இப்போது ஒரு 'நல்ல' கொள்கை நடைமுறைக்கு வந்திருக்கிறது! அடித்துத் துரத்தும் தலைவர்களில் ஆரம்பித்து இப்படித் தனித் தமிழ் முழக்கம் செய்பவர்களில் எத்தனை பேருக்குத் தமிழிலக்கியத்தில் - தெய்வ ஸம்பந்தமான இலக்கியம் கூடாது என்றே வைத்துவிட்டாலும், 'ஸெக்யுலர் லிட்ரேசரா'கவே வைக்கப்பட்ட தமிழிலக்கியத்தில் திருக்குறள், திருக்குறள் என்கிறார்களே, அதில்கூடப் பரிச்சயம் இருக்கிறது என்று பார்த்தால், ஒரு பெர்ஸென்ட், இரண்டு பெர்ஸென்ட் தேறுமா என்பதே ஸந்தேஹம் என்று தெரிகிறது. ஆனாலும் ஸம்ஸ்கிருதத்தை அடித்துத் துரத்த வேண்டும் என்று மட்டும் அநேகமாக நூறு பர்ஸன்ட்காரர்களும் முஸ்தீபாக இருக்கிறார்கள்! அந்த ஸம்ஸ்கிருதம் என்னமோ இவர்கள் அடித்துத் துரத்தினதாக நினைக்கிற இடங்களிலும் இவர்களுக்கே தெரியாமல் வந்து பூந்து கொள்கிறது!

‘Aachara’ and ‘Anachara’

On a shiny, windy day afternoon Sri Mahaswamigal went and sat under a tree at Tenambakkam (near Kanchipuram) where he had been camping for a long time. He had rested his ‘dandam’ at the root of the tree and was looking at the skies. A strong wind blew and the ‘dandam’ fell to the ground. A cowherd who was grazing cattle nearby came running, took the ‘dandam’ and placed it before swamigal and said, “Sami ! Sami ! your stick has fallen. I picked it up as you need it”, and ran away.

[A little note here: The ‘dandam’ is a staff which sanyasi behold always. It has a folded up cloth at the top which is very sacred and cannot be touched, taken or put down as one wishes. No one should touch it as it contains the concentrated power centre of that sanyasi. The folded cloth is called “Brahma sutra” which can be made ready only by a few pundits specially trained in it.]

Sri Mahaswamigal went into a “Kaashta Mouna” (no speech, no movements, no signals or signs and not looking at anyone; like a statue). The mutt sent for three pundits who knew how to prepare a new ‘dandam’. It so happened that one of them had performed “Pitru Karma” that day and hence cannot join the other two, till the next morning. Sri Mahaswamigal was stationed motionless unaware of anything.

There was a bank director in Paris, France. He was keen on having a darshan of Periyava, having heard about him. Dr. Raghavan used to receive frequent phone calls (from the bank director). He would ask if he could come and have a darshan of Periyava. Dr. Raghavan (who was a Sanskrit professor in the Madras University) would inform Periyava about the request. Even though he had told, "He is very keen to have darshan of Periyava; he incessently calls me", Periyava did not give his consent. Some years passed in this way.

Suddenly one day Dr. Raghavan received tidings that said, 'I have arrived at Bombay. I shall come over to Madras and meet you. Should please arrange for the darshan.'

At that time Acharyas were staying in Mylapore Sanskrit College. One evening Dr. Raghavan was waiting to have darshan of Periyava. Periyava called him and inquired. When told about the Frechman's proposed visit to Chennai, Periyava looked at him intently for a moment then looked elsewhere at a distance as if talking to someone mentally and then said, "Alright, bring him."

Before Periyava sat for the upanyAsam after the puja, he called one of the mutt-inmates and said, "If any European turns up, offer him on a chair, as he would not be able to sit on the floor. I shall see him after the upanyAsam."

தில்லைவாழ் அந்தணர்:சித்திரை-முதல்நாள்-தில்லையில் வாழும் தீட்சதர்கள். தொகையடியார்களின் ஒன்பதுபேரில் முதலாவதாக வணங்கப்படுபவர்கள்.

1. 

திருநீலகண்ட நாயனார்:தை-விசாகம். குயவர்-சோழநாடு, சிதம்பரம். அயலறியா வண்ணிம் மனைவியின் சபதத்திற்கு உடன்படடு அவளைத் தீண்டாது, இளமையிலும் முதுமையிலும் இல்லறம் நடத்தி இறைவன் திருவருளால் இளமை பெற்றார்.

2. 

இயற்பகை நாயனார்:மார்கழி-உத்திரம். வணிகர்-சோழநாடு- காவிரிப்பூம்பட்டினம். சிவனடியார்க்குத் தம் மனைவியிடமே தானமாகக் கொடுத்தவர்.

Eka Vilvam Shivarpanam

Swamigal had wanted to give the translated works of the 63 Nayanmars to the Pope and had instructed the Kanchipuram collector to do so. When the books were placed before Him, He changed His mind and said, "give them to Pradosham Mama, as he is the 64th Nayanmar".

And got new set of books for the Pope.

For Pradosham Mama’s habit of placing Vilva leaves on His head daily, He said, “He heaps Mahalakshmi on my head daily in the mornings and that is why our Matam is blessed by Mahalakshmi!".

He asks him, "you bring Vilvam leaves daily to me, do you pluck them by yourself?”

Mama said, “I used to, but not now due to my old age. One person Venu who works in Kanchi Electricity Board helps me with this now”.

“Out of vilvam leaves he brings, I make a garland and bring it to You, the balance I use for Rudram and poojas at home”

Swamigal says, “Oho, is that right!”

A lady standing near by says, “I also collect a bucket of Vilvam leaves and make a garland and give the rest for archanas at Ekambareshwar temple”

To which Swamigal said, “you both are doing it slightly differently, but ultimately all the vilvas fall only on My Head when you offer them saying Eka Vilvam Shivarpanam”!

அன்றாட பூஜைகளை முடித்தபின் பக்தர்களுக்கு தீர்த்தப் பிரசாதம் அளித்துவிட்டு, பிட்சைக்குச் செல்வது காஞ்சிமகானின் தினசரி வழக்கம். பிட்சையில் கிடைக்கும் உணவையே அவர் உண்பார். ஒருசமயம், வழக்கம்போல் பூஜைகளை முடித்த பின்னர், பிட்சைக்குச் செல்லாமல் மடத்திலேயே இருந்துவிட்டார் மகான். பிட்சைக்குச் செல்லாததால், அவர் உணவும் எடுத்துக் கொள்ளவில்லை. பலரும் வற்புறுத்தியும் உண்ண மறுத்துவிட்டார். இது மறுநாளும் தொடர்ந்தது. அன்றும் மகான் உணவருந்தவில்லை. மூன்றாம் நாளும் மகாசுவாமிகள் பிட்சைக்குச் செல்லவில்லை. எனவே, மடத்தில் உள்ளோருக்கு பயம் தொற்றிக் கொண்டது.

தபஸ் போதவில்லை

வரதட்சணைக் கொடுமை தலைவிரித்தாடிய காலம் அது. வரதட்சணை தருவதும் வாங்குவதும் தவறு. அதனை சாஸ்திரம் அனுமதிக்கவில்லை என்று வலியுறுத்தி வந்தார் காஞ்சி மகாபெரியவர். தன் பெயரைத் திருமணப் பத்திரிகைகளில் போடுவோர் வரதட்சணை வாங்குவதோ கொடுப்பதோ கூடாது என்பதில் கண்டிப்பாக இருந்தார். ஆனாலும் சிலர் மீறினர். அந்த சமயத்தில் ஆங்கிலப் பத்திரிகையாளர் ஒருவர் சுவாமிகளிடம் பேட்டிக்கு வந்தார். உங்களை குருவாக ஏற்றுக் கொண்டவர்கள், திருமண பத்திரிகையில், காஞ்சி காமகோடி பீடாதிபதி ஜகத்குரு சங்கராசார்ய சுவாமிகள் அனுகிரகத்துடன் என்று போடுகிறார்கள். அவ்வாறு போடுபவர்களில் பலர் உங்கள் கட்டளையை மீறி வரதட்சணை வாங்குகிறார்களே? என்று அவர் கேட்டார்.

நைவேத்யம் (Supplication)

"அன்னத்துல கார்போஹைட்ரேட், வைட்டமின் மட்டும் இல்லே! அதை சமைச்சவர், காய்கறிகளை தானமாவோ, வெலைக்கோ குடுத்தவர், அதை பயிர் பண்ணினவர்…ன்னு ஒரு மொழநீள லிஸ்ட்டுக்கு, சம்பந்தபட்டவா எல்லாரோட குணதோஷங்களும் அந்த அன்னத்ல ‘டெபாசிட்’ ஆகி சாப்டறவா உள்ளே போறது.

அதுனாலதான் கண்ட எடத்ல கண்டவா கையால சமைச்சு சாப்டரதால நம்ம மனஸ் கெட்டுப் போக ரொம்ப ஹேதுவாயிருக்கு. ஆத்துலேயே சமைச்சாலும், அன்னதோஷம் போறதுக்குத்தான், என்ன சமைக்கறோமோ அதை பகவானுக்கு நைவேத்யம் பண்ணிட்டா, அதுல இருக்கற கொஞ்சநஞ்ச தோஷமும் போய்டும். மனஸும் கெடாது. சரீரமும் கெடாது”.

The quality of food is not just a matter of taste alone. What determines it are the satvik quality of all those connected with it viz., who cultivated it, who cooked it, who sold or offered it and the ingredients used for cooking. 

Our mind may get spoiled by eating food anywhere cooked by anybody.  Even food cooked at home should be offered to god by doing neivedhyam and it will remove any dosham in it and will safeguard one's mind and the body.
